Tata Plans ₹4,350 Crore AI Fiber Network
Tata Communications plans to invest $400 million to $450 million (about ₹4,350 crore) over the next three to five years to build a 10,000-kilometer AI-ready fiber network linking India’s data centers and AI hubs. The three-phase rollout will begin with major corridors connecting Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai, then extend to cities including Vizag, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar. The network is expected to add roughly 6 petabits per second of capacity and connect to Tata Communications’ global backbone, supporting low-latency links for AI, cloud and other data-intensive services. The company aims to capture as much as 30–40% of India’s data-center connectivity market, which it estimates could exceed $1 billion over the medium term; executives say customer discussions are advanced, but specific network contracts have not been announced. The investment will be funded through operating cash flows, with deployment phased according to demand and data-center growth.
