GM to transfer stock listing from NYSE to Nasdaq

General Motors announced Tuesday it will transfer its common stock listing from the NYSE to the Nasdaq Global Select Market, with Nasdaq trading set to begin November 17, 2026. Shares will trade on the NYSE through November 16 and keep the ticker GM; existing shareholders do not need to take action. The change makes GM eligible for potential inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index. CFO Paul Jacobson said GM’s customer-focused, technology-driven strategy is creating value for stockholders, making Nasdaq a natural home for the listing as the company grows, and said the firm is grateful for its long-standing partnership with the NYSE and its remarkable legacy. GM first listed on the NYSE in 1911 and relisted in 2010 after a government-backed bankruptcy, in a then-record IPO that raised about $20 billion; it delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange in November 2017. The news came a week after a Q3 earnings report that beat expectations and after a GM technology event, and less than 24 hours after Anthropic selected Nasdaq for its IPO. Walmart moved from the NYSE to Nasdaq on December 9, 2025, and joined the Nasdaq-100 on January 20, 2026. Nasdaq-100 annual reconstitution ranks companies by market value on November 30, with changes effective December 21; whether GM is added is unresolved.
