Disney cuts 159 jobs, Shanghai park reportedly shelved

Disney is pursuing broad cost reductions, with managers reportedly asked to identify savings of about 20%, potentially involving thousands of job cuts as well as other expenses. Separately, a California notice confirms 159 permanent layoffs at Walt Disney Imagineering’s Glendale headquarters, part of a reported 100-to-200-job reduction in the Disney Experiences division. The company has attributed the division’s cuts to routine reassessments of priorities, investments and project timelines, even as it advances numerous theme park projects. Reports also say Disney has indefinitely shelved a proposed second theme park at Shanghai Disney Resort, though Disney has never publicly confirmed the project or the reported decision.
