US Job Openings Jump to 7.52 Million
U.S. job openings rose by 333,000 to about 7.52 million in September, exceeding economists’ expectations and reaching their highest level since May. Hiring edged higher, while layoffs fell to about 1.64 million, their lowest level since March 2025; workers quitting also increased, a potential sign of greater confidence in finding other jobs. The figures suggest firmer labor demand, though economists describe the market as still characterized by relatively low hiring and low layoffs, and say the gains need to persist to indicate a sustained improvement. September payroll growth was modest, and the October jobs report is expected to show a limited increase in employment with unemployment holding near 4.2%.
