Singapore Airlines Unveils S$2 Billion Long-Haul Cabin Upgrade
Singapore Airlines will invest more than S$2 billion ($1.6 billion) to upgrade all four classes on 72 long-haul aircraft, its largest cabin overhaul. New interiors begin rolling out in the second half of 2027 on refurbished Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 777-9s on order. First-class companion seats convert into a double bed SIA calls the largest in commercial aviation, with 79-inch full-flat beds, 32-inch 4K screens and Bang & Olufsen headphones. Business class adds sliding privacy doors for the first time. More than 5,000 frequent flyers and BMW Group's Designworks helped shape the designs. SIA also plans first class on A350 ultra-long-range jets, including future Singapore–New York flights. What's contested: timing hinges on certification and 777-9 deliveries. On Nov 4, Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin said products moved to the A350 due to 777-9 delays. Boeing's Q3 earnings pushed first 777-9 deliveries to 2027. In May, Chief Operating Officer Tan Kai Ping said the jets will miss the financial year ending March 2027: "Fingers crossed, it shows up in the next financial year." Premium-economy and economy upgrades apply on the 777-9 only.
