BWXT to Supply TRISO Fuel for Antares Microreactor Program
BWX Technologies’ advanced-fuels subsidiary has signed a multi-year agreement to produce TRISO nuclear fuel for Antares Nuclear’s advanced microreactor program, with an initial allocation of one metric ton of uranium and the option to increase volumes. Fuel will be made at BWXT’s Lynchburg, Virginia, facility on a line that has supplied Antares’ Mark-0 reactor and the Department of War’s Project Pele; deliveries, schedules and technical specifications will be set through future task orders. The agreement builds on fuel that supported Mark-0’s 2026 criticality milestone, and Antares says BWXT fuel is expected to power its electricity-producing Mark-1 reactor in 2027. Antares is targeting initial production deployments at U.S. military installations beginning in 2028.
