BYD overseas shipments more than double as domestic sales slide in August

BYD sold 440,293 new energy vehicles in August 2026, up about 17.8% year over year, with overseas shipments rising 134% to a record 189,466 and accounting for 43% of monthly deliveries. Domestic Chinese sales fell around 14% year over year, underscoring a shift in growth dynamics as overseas markets shoulder more of the expansion. The overseas performance helped push the company’s international revenue share higher, with overseas sales accounting for roughly half of total revenue in the first half and 53% of eight-month revenue, signaling a clear pivot from Greater China. Within the August mix, BEVs reached 256,230 units (about 59.1% of passenger NEV sales) while PHEVs totaled 177,154, showing a continued tilt toward all-electric models. BYD continues to expand abroad through local production investments, including Brazil’s Camaçari complex and related flex-fuel plug-in hybrid offerings, as part of its strategy to deepen overseas capacity. Despite the growth, profitability remained under pressure in early 2026, with declines in net profit and ample attention from investors on whether deliveries will meet full-year targets of 5 million to 5.5 million NEVs.
