California Enacts PFAS Pesticide Tracking Law
California has enacted a law requiring the state to identify pesticides containing PFAS in its public pesticide-use database and track how their use changes over time. The measure also requires the state to publish a list of registered PFAS-containing pesticides by 2028, giving regulators and the public a clearer picture of where the chemicals are used. PFAS can persist in the environment, and some have been linked to health problems, prompting advocates to call for greater oversight. The law was scaled back from an earlier proposal to block approval of new PFAS pesticides after opposition from agricultural groups; supporters describe tracking as a first step toward possible future action.
