California ICE Protests, Tampa Rally Planned
Protests opposing federal immigration enforcement were reported in Woodland and Salinas, while Tampa activists announced a separate demonstration calling for justice for people who died in ICE custody. In Woodland, more than 100 people marched to demand that prosecutors pursue assault and hit-and-run charges against an ICE agent accused of striking community observer Antonio Moreida with a vehicle; local police are investigating, while federal officials deny the vehicle hit him and say Moreida jumped onto its hood. In Salinas, protesters called for federal agents to leave the Monterey County Jail after reports of an immigration operation; county officials reportedly asked the agents to leave, though the sheriff’s office said it could not verify the agents’ identities or the operation. Tampa organizers said their Día de los Muertos event would honor those who died in ICE custody and advocate for living immigrants.
