Campaign Finance Reports, Deadlines Span Three States
South Dakota’s pre-election filings covered contested legislative races, statewide offices and the governor’s race, with reports showing varied fundraising and spending and some candidates’ filings not yet posted. Democratic gubernatorial nominee Dan Ahlers reported raising about $177,000 and spending about $156,000, while Republican Larry Rhoden’s main report was not yet available; supplemental filings showed more than $265,000 in additional contributions. In Iowa, Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn raised $16.9 million over the latest reporting period, slightly more than Democrat Rob Sand, though Sand reported a much larger remaining campaign balance; the candidates are discussing rescheduling a debate Sand withdrew from after a family bereavement. Nebraska candidates and political committees faced an Oct. 26 filing deadline covering activity from Sept. 30 through Oct. 19, with additional rapid-disclosure rules for large contributions received shortly before the election.
