Campaign Funding Trends Diverge Across US Elections
Campaign fundraising is showing distinct strains and changes across several states and parties. In Rhode Island, officials have budgeted $3 million for public matching funds in 2026, but less than a third is expected to be used as fewer candidates participate. Arizona Republican gubernatorial nominee Andy Biggs has drawn far fewer large donors than former Gov. Doug Ducey did, with some prominent GOP donors staying out or backing other candidates. Nationally, Republicans are also lagging Democrats in online small-donor fundraising, with Donald Trump standing out as the party’s major online fundraiser. In Washington, regulators have stopped enforcing a $7,500 cap on individual donations to PACs during the final three weeks before an election, allowing larger last-minute contributions while leaving direct-to-candidate limits unchanged.
