Canada Announces $100M Aid for Palestine

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $100 million in new Canadian assistance for Palestinians during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The package includes $80 million for humanitarian relief and $20 million for security and development initiatives, including Canada’s program to train Palestinian police in the West Bank. Carney said the funding aims to address the “immense human suffering” in Gaza and preserve the possibility of a two-state solution, while acknowledging security threats facing Israel. Canada also condemned Israel’s planned E1 settlement expansion, which Carney said threatens Palestinian territorial contiguity and peace prospects, and reiterated plans to restrict imports from Israeli settlements. The announcement follows hundreds of millions of dollars in Canadian aid committed since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023.
