Canary Islands storm leaves seven dead, 380 rescued

At least seven migrants died after a storm struck a boat carrying people toward Spain’s Canary Islands, according to reports citing maritime rescue services. Rescuers found two bodies aboard and rescued more than 130 people; five others reportedly died and were lost at sea. Coast guard crews also rescued about 250 people from other boats near Lanzarote and El Hierro, bringing the reported total rescued on Monday to more than 380. The Atlantic crossing from West Africa to the archipelago is among the world’s deadliest migration routes.
