Cancer efforts span care, outreach, advocacy
Efforts to improve cancer outcomes include both connecting people with care and supporting them through treatment. In Connecticut, community health worker Rosa Agosto uses outreach and trusted relationships to help people access screenings and care, while Pink Heals Western Illinois volunteers visit patients and families to offer encouragement. In Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center’s affiliate network links 20 community sites to specialized expertise, aiming to expand high-quality care closer to home. Separately, a new documentary examines possible links between Iowa’s agricultural practices, water quality and cancer, reflecting concerns about the state’s cancer rates.
