Candidates vie for school, city seats across states

Candidates are competing in several local elections, including school board, city council and mayoral races. In Fenton, three candidates are seeking two six-year school board seats, while board president Emily Rossmaessler is unopposed for a separate partial term. Four candidates are running for Round Rock ISD’s Place 3 seat, bringing perspectives ranging from an eight-year incumbent’s experience to calls for stronger financial oversight, teacher representation and a fresh student voice; the district faces a roughly $6 million deficit. In Newport, three city council incumbents face former council member and city attorney David Allen, while four candidates in Jackson’s mayoral race have emphasized infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, transparency, safety and local growth. Little Rock Vice Mayor BJ Wyrick is also seeking the mayor’s office and discussed her campaign ahead of the 2026 election.
