Candidates Vie in Delaware, Louisiana Elections
Delaware’s Nov. 3 general election features competitive legislative races, with control of the state House also in play: Democrats need one pickup to reach a two-thirds majority. In House District 41, Republican John Atkins and Democrat Ryan Stuckey are competing for the seat being vacated by Richard Collins; Atkins emphasizes traffic, farming and opposition to Senate Bill 23, while Stuckey prioritizes health care, affordable housing and local oversight of development. In the First Senate District, incumbent Dan Cruce faces Republican Hildi Bachtle and independent Steven Washington, whose campaigns emphasize affordability and housing alongside differing priorities including port expansion, public safety, education and transit. Wilmington’s 3rd House District race pits Democrat Branden Fletcher-Dominguez, who centers affordability and housing, against Republican Shawn Dottery and independent Dexter Bland, who also highlight issues including crime, education and responsible growth. The broader Delaware election calendar includes a Sept. 15 primary, with early voting beginning Sept. 2; local contests include a closely watched Democratic primary for an open House seat and Newark-area county council races where data centers are a key concern.
