Cape Coral Approves $500M Bimini East Redevelopment
Cape Coral City Council approved Crown Development’s $500 million Bimini East project, a 34-acre downtown redevelopment planned to include housing, hotels, shops, restaurants, a marina, and public amenities. The project is intended to revitalize the waterfront and connect it with the South Cape entertainment district, while city officials tout its potential economic and job benefits. Four Freedoms Park, widely described as Cape Coral’s oldest park, is slated to be redesigned and incorporated into the development rather than eliminated, but residents remain uncertain about where its playground and other amenities will go. The preschool operating at the park will need to relocate, though the developer says its educational program will continue. Residents have also raised concerns about traffic, noise, the project’s scale, effects on nearby properties, and the public cost of acquiring and transferring the land; others welcome new shops and restaurants.
