Cardinals Re-Sign Fleming for Rotation Depth

The Cardinals are entering the second year of their rebuild with bullpen help as a major need and added rotation depth by re-signing left-hander Josh Fleming to a minor-league deal. Commentary on their offseason also recommends pursuing a veteran starter: Shane Bieber is presented as a potentially high-upside, short-term option if his health holds, while Nick Martinez could bring durability and versatility, though his strong season may make him costly. At third base, the team could consider a temporary veteran solution such as Enrique Hernández, a versatile player who could provide leadership and potentially be dealt at the trade deadline if St. Louis is out of contention.
