Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids plans to begin a soft opening on November 19, ahead of its original New Year’s Eve target, with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening set for December 5. The venue is slated to include 700 slot machines, 22 table games and a 1,500-seat entertainment center, and is hiring about 350 workers with an emphasis on local employment. Nearby road work is expected to finish about a week before the casino opens, alongside longer-term flood-control planning that includes a $25 million federal grant for a project scheduled in 2028. The casino will also feature murals by local artist Ali Hval, with designs inspired by Czech culture and Art Nouveau.
