Cemetery, history events planned across states
Michigan’s Hackley and Hume Historic Site will host candlelit tours in October exploring Victorian mourning customs and how families commemorated the dead. In San Antonio, the city’s Historic Preservation Office is pairing a free screening of Hocus Pocus at Eastside Cemeteries with opportunities to explore the historic grounds and learn about cemetery stewardship. In Michigan, a presentation will spotlight Greenwood Cemetery’s notable residents and its regional history. Georgia’s Picnic at Dorchester Academy will combine live blues with the site’s history as an educational institution for formerly enslaved people and a center for Civil Rights Movement leadership training.
