CERN, Mistral partner to develop physics AI
CERN and Mistral AI are pursuing a long-term partnership to develop Flare, a foundation model for collider physics trained on billions of simulated particle collisions rather than text. The model is intended to support or replace some specialized tools used to reconstruct and identify particles, and could eventually help with other scientific work. CERN says its Large Hadron Collider data holdings are about one exabyte, with collision volumes expected to grow tenfold after an upgrade planned around 2030. The effort remains a research initiative, not a publicly released model; the partners have not announced a project budget or timeline.
