Charleston lowers speed limit, Corbridge plans reduction

West Virginia has lowered the speed limit from 60 mph to 50 mph on the interstates through Charleston’s I-64/I-77 interchange after several serious crashes, including incidents in which vehicles went over or nearly over the elevated roadway’s barrier. The state plans to add warning signs, apply high-friction pavement treatment in some areas and study whether the barrier can be raised; Charleston and state police will also increase enforcement. Drivers are urged to follow the new signs and use extra caution through the interchange.
