Chery Seeks US Automaker Partnerships

China’s Chery is exploring technology partnerships with U.S. automakers as it seeks a path into North America, where tariffs and technology-security restrictions have effectively kept Chinese-made cars out of the U.S. market. Vice President Charlie Zhang said the company is open to different arrangements and believes it could develop vehicles using hardware and software that are not China-originated. Chery, whose Omoda and Jaecoo brands have expanded in overseas markets, is also preparing to launch a brand in Canada in early 2027. The push comes as Chinese automakers seek overseas growth amid domestic overcapacity and weak demand.
