Cheyenne deputies euthanize mountain lion; second reported
Laramie County deputies euthanized a mountain lion after repeated sightings in a neighborhood near Cheyenne, where it crossed properties, sheltered under porches and moved close to children and livestock. Deputies and Wyoming Game and Fish officials were unable to safely capture and relocate it; the sheriff’s office said it lacked the specialized equipment and expertise to tranquilize and transport the animal safely. The decision drew criticism from some people who questioned why the lion was not relocated, while nearby residents and a local horse trainer said they feared for children and livestock. Officials urged people to keep their distance from mountain lions and call 911 if they see one nearby.
