Children Found Living in Abandoned Dayton Home
Dayton police found five children living without adult supervision in a boarded-up home on Delphos Avenue that lacked utilities; the children were taken for medical evaluations and placed with Montgomery County Children’s Services or relatives. Officers later located a 15-year-old sibling at school and placed him in the agency’s custody as well. Their mother said she had been rushed to the hospital and expected her 15-year-old son to watch the younger children. Police said the children may have stayed elsewhere at times to get food and use water, while prosecutors review whether to pursue misdemeanor child-endangerment charges against the mother.
