Chinese state firms resume U.S. soybean buys after Trump-Xi meeting
Chinese state-owned trading firms have resumed buying U.S. soybeans, with reports estimating roughly 8–13 Panamax cargoes after the September meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The cargoes, each carrying about 65,000 metric tons, are scheduled for shipment beginning in December. The purchases come despite soybeans being left out of proposed tariff reductions, a factor that has dampened expectations of renewed buying by private Chinese crushers and leaves state buyers central to the trade. The deals may support U.S. exports, but whether they signal lasting commercial demand will depend on tariff policy and subsequent Chinese purchases.
