China's Non-Soy US Farm Imports Hit Seven-Year Low
China’s purchases of U.S. farm goods other than soybeans are on track for their weakest January–September showing since 2019, despite a pledge to buy $17 billion in American agricultural products annually beginning in 2026, with this year’s target prorated. China bought $7.2 billion of those goods through September, while appearing on track to meet its separate soybean commitment. It remains unclear whether China has fallen short of its pledge because Washington has not clarified when the purchasing period began or how the target is prorated. The slow sales have frustrated U.S. farmers facing full grain-storage bins and elevated costs, and have added to political pressure on President Donald Trump’s party ahead of midterm elections.
