China Sentences Former Securities Official to Death With Reprieve
A Chinese court sentenced Wang Huimin, a former anti-corruption official at the China Securities Regulatory Commission, to death with a two-year reprieve after finding that he accepted more than 436 million yuan in bribes from 1998 to 2025 in exchange for favors, including help with business operations and fundraising. The court cited the scale of the corruption and the harm caused, while granting the reprieve in light of factors including Wang’s disclosures, guilty plea and remorse, attempted offenses, and recovery of some proceeds; it said the sentence would be commuted to life imprisonment without parole or further reduction, and ordered his political rights revoked for life and his property confiscated.
