Li Auto and Xpeng are seeking to generate revenue beyond vehicle sales by commercializing their internally developed electric-vehicle and artificial-intelligence technologies. Li Auto is reportedly pursuing external customers for its Mach driver-assistance chips, silicon-carbide modules and range extenders, while preparing to spin off its chip business, although no contracts or sales have been confirmed. Xpeng has held discussions with potential foreign automakers, software companies and suppliers about licensing its electronic architecture, smart-cockpit systems, Turing AI chips and advanced driver-assistance software, with possible future applications in robotaxis, robotics and other physical-AI products. Its technology partnership with Volkswagen, including the jointly developed ID.UNYX 08 SUV, is serving as a model for the expansion. The strategy comes as Xpeng broadens its vehicle lineup with the launch of the G9L five-seat SUV in China, offered in battery-electric and extended-range versions.
