Christmas Retailer Gordon Companies Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Gordon Companies Inc., the family-owned New York retailer behind Christmas Central, Christmas.com, Northlight and Pool Central, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company reported estimated assets and liabilities of $10 million to $50 million and between 200 and 999 creditors, including FedEx and UPS among its largest unsecured claimants. The filing follows lawsuits over unpaid obligations and financial pressure ahead of a holiday season marked by cautious consumer spending. Gordon has also alleged that a costly inventory and order-management system failed to handle peak-season demand, contributing to fulfillment problems and the abandonment of the system in 2021. The company says it plans to continue operating while it reorganizes under bankruptcy protection.
