Cincinnati Student Dies on School Bus, Investigation Underway

Ngone Talla, 7, a second grader at Roselawn Condon School in Cincinnati, died Sept. 17, 2026, after a school bus ride home. She had cerebral palsy, used a wheelchair and was nonverbal. Her Northside family noticed the First Student bus parked outside about 10 to 15 minutes without the wheelchair ramp deploying. They went outside, were told she was not responding, and Marema Talla found her unresponsive in her wheelchair. Abdoul Talla called 911 after his wife and children contacted him. Paramedics took Ngone to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Binetou Talla said she saw her sister unresponsive and lifeless. Abdoul Talla said staff are supposed to just watch carefully the kids and should call 911 from the get-go. Marema Talla said they should never have had to wait for parents to call an ambulance and that it was not fair at all. First Student said it is deeply saddened and cooperating with the investigation. Cincinnati Public Schools said its hearts are with the family and sent crisis counselors to the school. The Hamilton County Coroner's Office reported no traumatic injuries or signs of harm, noted her extensive medical history including cerebral palsy, and has not announced a cause of death. Some reports citing WXIX said she became trapped in a seatbelt. Police are investigating.
