Cities win grants for intersection upgrades and traffic safety
Cities in Virginia, California and Kentucky are directing state and federal grants toward roadway improvements and traffic safety. Suffolk approved $4.8 million for turn lanes and signal upgrades at two busy intersections, while Covington secured $4.1 million toward a $5.1 million project to improve Winston Avenue for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, including a shared-use path. Roanoke accepted a $300,000 grant for a campaign intended to reduce traffic injuries and deaths, and Pasadena is considering $512,200 to fund impaired-driving enforcement, checkpoints and broader safety outreach. The projects combine infrastructure upgrades, enforcement and education, with some work dependent on additional funding or future construction schedules.
