Cities seek volunteers for urban forestry projects
Communities in Michigan, Texas, Iowa and Indiana are recruiting volunteers for tree-planting and urban-forestry projects. Monroe plans to plant 35 trees along Telb Street, while Pharr’s annual Rio Reforestation event expects more than 1,100 registered volunteers to plant regionally grown trees. Marion is organizing fall plantings of 250 trees to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, and Fort Wayne’s Great Tree Canopy Comeback will combine tree planting with invasive-species removal. Covington, Kentucky, is also seeking volunteers to maintain young street trees by staking them, removing oversized protective tubes and spreading mulch.
