Colorado, Texas Agencies Urge Hunter Precautions
Colorado wildlife officials are warning waterfowl hunters along the Arkansas River near Pueblo that elevated E. coli levels remain in some areas after an August sewage spill of about 4.25 million gallons, and that rainfall may raise bacteria levels again. Hunters are advised to limit water contact, clean gear and clothing, wash exposed skin, and handle and prepare harvested birds safely. In Texas, wildlife officials are asking hunters to clean, drain and dry boats and equipment—including decoys and waders—between waterways to prevent the spread of invasive species such as giant salvinia and zebra mussels; transporting prohibited species can also lead to fines.
