Communities Hold, Plan Remembrance Events
Communities in Washington, Florida and Maryland are holding events that honor people lost to suicide while raising awareness, encouraging conversations about mental health and connecting attendees with support. In Spokane, a family created an escape-room fundraiser in memory of their son, with proceeds supporting a local suicide-prevention organization; a St. Augustine walk and Salisbury’s Lights in the Night event also bring people together to remember loved ones and promote prevention, with organizers directing people in crisis to call or text 988. Elsewhere, Singing River Hospice of Light is hosting tree-planting ceremonies for families remembering loved ones, while Arrowe Park Hospital held a lantern ceremony for families grieving the loss of a baby. Across the events, organizers emphasize remembrance, community support and making space for grief.
