Schools join adoption hearings and plan veterans memorials for loved ones
Students and community groups are marking important relationships through school and cultural events. In Kansas, an Olpe Elementary first-grade class attended a classmate’s adoption hearing at his request, then returned with him to school for homecoming activities. In New York, Park Avenue Elementary’s student council is raising money for veterans’ grave wreaths, preparing a Veterans Day ceremony and memorial-tree ornaments, and collecting toys for military families. Chandler School second-graders created Día de los Muertos ofrendas honoring relatives and pets, while Laredo’s Mujeres en Escena is planning free dance performances celebrating loved ones through culture and tradition.
