Communities Plan Día de los Muertos Events

Communities in Milwaukee, Dallas, El Centro, Baldwin Park and San Antonio are marking Día de los Muertos with public celebrations that honor loved ones and Mexican and Latin American heritage. Events include community ofrendas, parades, live music, food, markets and family activities, while El Centro’s library is inviting residents to contribute photographs to an altar on display through Nov. 2. The traditions blend Indigenous and Catholic influences, and ofrendas commonly feature photographs, candles, marigolds and food; marigolds are believed to help guide the departed back to visit the living.
