Communities promote upcoming drug takeback events

Communities are promoting youth substance-use prevention and safe disposal of unused medications through public events. Carson City Juvenile Services will host a free Oct. 27 session on the risks of marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, inhalants and opioids for adolescents. Drug Take Back events in Summerville and Dover on Oct. 24 offer residents a way to dispose of unneeded or expired medicines, helping keep potentially dangerous drugs away from young people; Dover organizers also accept vapes if batteries are removed. A Detroit-area nonprofit likewise joined a medicine-cabinet cleanout event to encourage responsible disposal.
