Communities host teacher wellness events and special-needs student programs
Education communities are offering support to both educators and students with special needs. In South Carolina’s Lowcountry, Teacher Care Club held a free wellness event for teachers, with workshops and other activities focused on connection and self-care. In North Carolina, students with disabilities at Ayden-Grifton High School run a coffee-and-snack cart that builds workplace skills, and the program was recognized at a statewide exceptional-children conference. A separate report describes teachers’ extensive preparation for parent conferences and their efforts to give families practical, individualized ways to reinforce students’ learning at home. In Washington state, Richland School District is inviting families to a fair where they can connect with special-education staff and community agencies about services for people with special needs at every age.
