Communities Track, Challenge Reported ICE Activity
Communities in several states are responding to increased immigration enforcement with protests, monitoring and public memorials. In New Haven, protesters urged Tweed Airport officials not to provide ICE more assistance than the law requires and sought records on agent access and vetting, following reported detentions at the airport. In New Jersey, activists placed signs at locations where people had been arrested by federal agents, while Newark organizers announced a march addressing both police brutality and immigration enforcement. In California, advocates questioned federal agents’ presence at a Milpitas jail, though the sheriff’s office said agents made no arrests that day and that the county does not coordinate with ICE. In the Sacramento region, a community group reported 27 verified detentions over two weeks—above its usual monthly tally—and said the actual number may be higher.
