Companies plan AI data centers across North America
Companies are expanding AI-computing capacity across North America, with projects increasingly shaped by access to large amounts of electricity and supporting infrastructure. In Kentucky, utility Kentucky Power is seeking approval for a new natural-gas plant to help serve TeraWulf’s planned Muskie Data Campus. In Ohio, SOAR AI says its campus is on track to begin operating GPUs by the end of 2026, while Meta highlights its Prometheus supercomputer in New Albany as a training site for its newest AI models. Valor Energy has also agreed to acquire an energized 18-megawatt Youngstown computing center, though converting it for AI use will require additional work and financing. In Nova Scotia, EverWind Fuels has proposed a $10 billion campus for Anthropic, paired with wind farms; the plan has drawn scrutiny over electricity rates and water use even as the company promises jobs and to cover grid upgrades.
