Counties approve, consider rezoning proposals
Dorchester County Council rezoned a former Department of Social Services property near Summerville for public institutional use, giving the county a possible site for a new animal shelter but not approving the shelter itself. One council member opposed the move, citing nearby homes, questions about whether the county should run a shelter and concerns about costs. In Daviess County, officials plan to resume operating their animal shelter with county employees starting Jan. 1 after the nonprofit currently managing it asked to end its contract early; preparations include hiring a shelter director and other staff.
