Counties Plan Green Lights Honoring Veterans

Communities in Pennsylvania, Oregon, South Dakota and California are marking Veterans Day with ceremonies and initiatives honoring veterans. In the Scranton area, events include a public Veterans Mass on Nov. 8 followed by a program with a Wounded Warrior Project speaker, and a memorial park observance on Nov. 11; local veterans organizations are also holding fundraising dinners and social events. Union County, Oregon, and Hughes County, South Dakota, will illuminate public buildings in green ahead of Veterans Day and encourage residents to display green lights to show support and raise awareness of veterans’ needs. Nevada County, California, is recognizing Military Appreciation Week from Nov. 7–15, highlighting local businesses’ military discounts and planning a Nov. 11 ceremony, meal and music at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building.
