Couple, Two Dogs Survive North Carolina Plane Crash

A North Carolina couple, Dustin and Autumn Davis, and their two dogs survived a nighttime crash after the engine failed on their single-engine Piper PA-32 during a flight from Hickory to Ocean Isle Beach. Unable to reach a nearby airport and facing darkness, Dustin made a last-minute maneuver to slow the plane and let its belly absorb much of the impact as it came down in trees near Whiteville. The couple escaped with minor injuries, and investigators are working to determine what caused the engine failure.
