Court restores Texas Tech QB Castellanos’ eligibility
Texas Tech backup quarterback Thomas Castellanos regained eligibility Friday after a Kentucky judge issued a temporary injunction in a lawsuit challenging NCAA limits on athletes’ fifth years. The order allows Castellanos and other athlete plaintiffs to compete while it remains in effect and restricts the NCAA from applying certain eligibility-related rules to them and their schools. Castellanos is available for Texas Tech’s game against Arizona State, where his running ability could add a short-yardage and mobile-quarterback option, particularly as running back Cam Dickey is injured. His return also gives the Red Raiders added depth behind starter Will Hammond.
