Court ruling clears Michigan’s Gayle for fifth season
Michigan guard Roddy Gayle Jr. has been cleared to play a fifth college basketball season after a New York court amended his temporary injunction to prevent the NCAA from declaring him ineligible because he played in the 2026 NBA Summer League, received a stipend or had an agent agreement. Gayle had missed Michigan’s first two exhibition games because the original ruling did not address his Summer League participation. The ruling clears the way for him to play in the Wolverines’ exhibition against Houston, though the NCAA may still appeal. Gayle averaged 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds last season and helped Michigan win the national championship.
