CSU Student Faces Six Charges After Firing Handgun Toward Campus Sergeant

A 22-year-old Colorado State University student, Brooks Bottenhorn, was seriously injured in an officer-involved shooting on the campus in Fort Collins on October 12. Investigators say he fired a handgun into the microbiology building and then advanced toward a CSU police sergeant, who shot him and provided first aid. Bottenhorn remains hospitalized and is expected to survive; authorities reported no other injuries and said the incident was not an active-shooter situation. He faces six charges, including menacing, criminal mischief and illegal discharge of a firearm, while an independent investigation into the shooting continues.
