CU Boulder Program Keeps 50,000 Containers From Landfills
Boulder’s 2026 elections are drawing attention to local leadership and regional transit challenges. Six candidates for mayor were invited to debate housing affordability, city spending, homelessness, public safety and their qualifications; incumbent Aaron Brockett and Councilmember Taishya Adams were among the participants, while Fred Smith did not take part. Separately, the contest for Boulder’s RTD board seat between transit advocate Jack Rosenthal and transportation planner Audrey DeBarros has become contentious. The winner will face an agency grappling with a budget shortfall, possible service cuts and declining ridership, as voters also consider expanded Front Range passenger rail.
