Cyberattack Disrupts State’s Sole Level I Trauma Center
A cybersecurity incident disrupted the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center on October 26, forcing ambulance diversions, temporary limits on new patient admissions, and the cancellation of clinic appointments and procedures. The disruption affected UNM Hospital, home to New Mexico’s only Level I trauma center, and nearby providers took additional patients. UNM said it was containing the incident with help from outside partners and law enforcement, and restoring systems in phases; hospitals reopened and clinical services were expected to resume, while Health Sciences classes were canceled for Tuesday. Officials have not publicly confirmed who was responsible or whether patient data was compromised.
