Día de los Muertos Events Span Colleges, Communities
Communities and schools are marking Día de los Muertos with celebrations centered on remembrance, cultural traditions and gathering. Leo Carrillo Ranch plans an Oct. 31 event with a family ofrenda, folklórico dancing, crafts and tours of its decorated historic adobe buildings. On Nov. 6, Cerritos College will host community- and student-made ofrendas, performances, food vendors and a screening of “The Book of Life,” while Warren High School is holding a freshmen-only evening with food, music and dancing. Amarillo College’s free exhibit features student artwork and personal tributes to loved ones, with mariachi music at its opening reception; it remains on display through Dec. 7.
